This was a very common practice back in the 70s-80s - students all the way to professionals did this. Yes, shoes did break in differently, but shoes were also made differently. I did not do it because I didn’t like the feeling, but I also wore a very narrow shoe, and that changed the base. (Canadian dancers thought I was crazy for not doing it). So, no, this is not crazy. I noticed the change started when GMs first came out- that shoe was so different, and it kind of started the change in shoe design.

my confession is that i never pick a right and a left, i just throw a shoe on and only ever pick a side when the box dies and I need the soft part under my big toe 🤷♀️

You can only do this with flats when you get a hole in the toe.

Have I ever danced, no! Does this seem like a really dumb and potentially dangerous thing to do, yes! If you choose violence, Riley, just know they chose it first.

What?! Okay... I don't do ballet, but as a licensed massage therapist I can say that would be TERRIBLE for the body! 😭💔 I hope she stops switching shoes!

I was told to do that with ballet slippers to keep them from getting worn out in the toes. But pointe shoes??? Hell no!

somehow I got on the ballet side of tick tock for a lot of months and I saw so many women recommending that method. I have never understood why they bother getting fitted and finding the perfect shoe with the correct shank and size, etc only to basically rip them apart and rebuild them when they get home.
