🚨 I’VE BEEN BEDRIDDEN WITH A MIGRAINE FOR OVER A WEEK… SO TODAY, WASHING MY HAIR IS MY VERSION OF SELF-CARE. 🥹🩷 I’m in over two months in this flare up and when you live with chronic migraine, sometimes the smallest things feel like the biggest accomplishments. 🫶🏼 After being bedridden for over a week during this chronic migraine flare-up, I decided it was time for a little self-care day. No elaborate routine, no unrealistic expectations… just washing my hair, using some of my favorite hair care products, and giving myself a little extra love. Because taking care of yourself when you’re chronically ill looks different for everyone. ❤️‍🩹 Today’s hair care routine includes the JOICO HydroSplash Shampoo and my favorite deep conditioning combination: Kenra Moisturizing Oil mixed into the Biolage Ultra Hydra Source Deep Conditioner for an extra dose of moisture! 🧴✨ 💡 LET’S TALK ABOUT HOW TO PROPERLY WASH YOUR HAIR, BECAUSE YOUR SCALP MATTERS! As a professional hairstylist with over 21 years of experience, one thing I wish more people knew is that healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp! 🚿 Here’s why I always shampoo twice: ✨ FIRST SHAMPOO: I rub the shampoo between my palms before applying it, then gently work it around my whole head and into my scalp. This first wash helps break down product buildup, excess oil, sweat, and debris. I don’t expect a ton of suds because buildup can affect how much the shampoo lathers. ✨ SECOND SHAMPOO: After rinsing thoroughly, I shampoo again, focusing on cleansing the scalp. This time, I usually get a much richer lather because the initial buildup has been removed. ✨ DON’T SKIP A THOROUGH RINSE! Thoroughly rinsing your shampoo out is just as important as washing. If you have long, thick, coarse, or dense hair, make sure you’re getting all the way down to your scalp and rinsing away every bit of product. ✨ DEEP CONDITIONING TIME: Normally, I’d leave my deep conditioner on overnight, but we’re going out to quickly grab some food, so today I’m letting it sit for about 20–30 minutes while I do my quick skincare routine. Sometimes we have to make self-care work with the energy we have! 💗 Living with chronic illness has taught me that self-care doesn’t have to be extravagant to count. Sometimes it’s washing your hair after days in bed, doing a simple skincare routine, or finding a tiny moment that makes you feel a little more like yourself again. If you’re also navigating chronic migraine, chronic illness, or an unpredictable health flare-up, I hope this reminds you that you’re still taking care of yourself, even when all you can manage is the bare minimum. You deserve that care, too. 🩷 💬 QUESTION FOR MY HAIR GIRLIES: What’s your favorite deep conditioning treatment? Tell me below! 👇🏼 @Joico Hair Care @Kenra Professional @BIOLAGE #ChronicMigraine #ChronicIllness #HairCareTips #HealthyHair #SelfCareRoutine
