With fabric you’d be better to find a complimentary colour in a matching fabric than a matching colour in a different fabric. Fabric stores are always the better option than a craft store but don’t know what’s available in your area. So sorry you had a crappy experience!

I had the same problem with a bridesmaid dress and my seamstress was able to leave most of the zipper and just move the hook and eye down and then added a corset back above were she left the zipper! It looked great and still had majority of the zipper! I’ll insert a picture!

Look up a local quilt shop near you! The employees there are usually super helpful and know a thing or two about fabric!

🚨🚨🚨🚨THIS IS HELPFUL!!!! Have your seamstress cut the panel on the bias if there’s enough of the new fabric, it will give it a little stretch

As an ex Michael's employee who also sews, take that fabric back! Look up if there's a fabric remnant store anywhere near you, your seamstress might know. Don't go to a chain craft place or a quilting store. Will those places have fabric? Yes. Will that fabric be garment quality? NO.
