And that 0.8 hours (48 minutes) includes: being assigned the job, locating the key to the vehicle, locating the vehicles, moving the vehicle into the shop, going to the parts department to get the part, doing the actual job, parking the vehicle back in the lot, putting the key back in the lockbox, completing the notes on the repair order, returning the failed part to the parts department, cleaning up the work space after the repair. 💀

The sad thing is I worked for Toyota recently and found that exact situation. The other sad situation is a lot of Manufacturers are doing it as well. Hyundai/Kia is doing this because of all the engines they have had to replace over the last 8 years or so.

Gm does it too, we were replacing engines before it was a recall those engines were 23 ish hours when the recall came out they dropped it to 18hrs

imagine if the mfgs went back to building QUALITY. not designed obsolescence for lowest production costs, imagine mfgs and dealers took care of employees rather than treating them like replaceable drones. just imagine it.

we just had a customer leave us a bad review because his aftermarket warranty wouldn't cover all of his repairs. and all because some sales guy blew smoke up his a$$ when he sold it to him. "this warranty will cover everything". maybe it's time for mechanics to stand up against manufacturers and warranty companies. nationwide strike until they start treating us better?

Move to Minnesota! We have a law that the manufacturer has to pay regular book time. It's a bit more paperwork for the warranty admin, but at least the tech is paid fairly!!

I was a mechanic for 2 years, and worked in shops since I was 16. I moved to parts and cannot look back. In my free time I play games, I get paid the same, and it’s less demanding in every aspect.
