@drhannahleedpm: Shoes on or off at home? As a podiatrist, my honest answer is: it depends on your feet. The catch is the floor. Tile and hardwood absorb no shock at all, so bare heels take every single step you take around the house. If your feet feel good and you are mostly on rugs or carpet, barefoot is fine. It even strengthens the small muscles inside your feet. But if you have heel or arch pain, spend long days on hard floors, or your first steps out of bed hurt, wear something. Sore heels in the morning are the clearest sign to cover up. And if you have diabetes or numb feet, never go barefoot, not even indoors. Numb feet miss splinters, burns and small cuts, and those can turn serious quickly. The easy fix: keep a supportive house shoe by the door, a slide or sandal with a contoured footbed. Outdoor shoes stay outside, and your heels stay happy. So what is the rule in your house, shoes on or off? Tell me in the comments. #podiatrist #heelpain #plantarfasciitis #shoesoff #footcare
