I think a big reason why he got the reputation that he did, other than the fact that he likes to flirt (because if it was only that, people would’ve clocked early on that he liked Lan Wangji), is because women felt safe and comfortable around him. He also treated them like human beings, and to a lot of the other characters, I’m sure treating women (and basically anyone they saw as “lower” than them) decently was seen as an attempt to seduce or flirt with them. Wei Wuxian is genuinely just trying to be nice a lot of the time because he likes making people smile, not much else to it, and women aren’t the only ones either. Remember, even the d*ad feel safe around him, as did the very traumatized Dafan Wen once they got to know him. Wei Wuxian has been weak and vulnerable many times in his life, and he’s felt unsafe for most of his first life, and unlike a lot of characters, he chooses to become the kind of person he himself needed at those times. This is why women and many others feel safe and comfortable around him
