AI was a major problem in Prewar America, and definitely a cautionary tale for IRL America. The labor clashes with corporate powers after the resource wars were instigated by companies replacing employees with protectron class workers. America's population by then had been drastically depleted by disease, war, and famine, and companies needed robotic workers to continue operating. Of course that left human workers without employment, and they resorted to violence when starving and unemployed. The invasion of Alaska mitigated tensions a little by sending able bodied workers to the war front, but further depleting population. Government and Corporations were looking for ways to survive in what was an inevitable end to civilization on many fronts, but in the meantime, AI was absolutely ensconsed as part of the landscape. There was no slow or wasteland about it. AI was already taking over.

What if there is a ZAX on the moon with Eden loaded on it and he’s still pulling strings? Except they are all on isolated networks and we don’t see any communication logs to indicate a scenario like this. So all AI have to be working independently to achieve their own goals, which is the better story because it warns that AI almost always try to take as much personal power as possible, like the mayor of Grafton who held a vote of 1 participant when the mayor stopped showing up.
