My friend HAD a 2012 Kia soul.. blew a coolant line. Called me on speaker.. first thing I said was pull over, turn it off. She already had, I said "DONT ADD ANYTHING TO THE COOLANT RESEVOIR OR ANY LIQUID WHILE ITS HOT" She said okay.... 20 seconds later I heard a loud bang... her boyfriend with 0 experience with cars decided to dump his ice cold water bottle into the coolant reservoir... She asked what it was and I just said "Well no coolant is no longer your concern but hopefully you don't mind doing an engine replacement" they're no longer together 😂😂

Your engine *can* actually shatter, it’s made of cast iron which almost never has ductile fracture, almost always failing in a brittle mode. Basic materials science

I used to landscape and had a push mower. One rule I had was "If it starts raining, I'm packing up and leaving." The mower had an exposed engine block. Very VERY hot when being used for a while. Too much water on that, and boom. Block cracks and I no longer have a functioning mower. I'm gonna guess the same applies here

If it overheats, try turning on your heating on high, maybe roll your windows down. If that doesn’t help, pull over and shut her down

Allegedly what if someone poured cold water on the exhaust headers when the engine is off and was at operating temperature? Could it damage the engine exhaust?

This happen to me on my first car when I was 18( I’m 30 not) I called my dad at 3am otw back from work and told him I was gonna throw water on it . When I tell you he screamed “DONT FUCKING DO THAT” at the top of his lungs into my ear. Im half deaf in that ear now[Tears of joy][Tears of joy]

my last car had a tendency to overheat so every now and then. I'd pull over at a gas station & turn off the engine. it would take an hour or longer for it to cool down & then I'd add coolant.

I saved a grocery store I worked for thousands of dollars with this knowledge. Growing up in Wisconsin I learned you never throw hot water on cold metal or glass. The grocery store I worked for in Kentucky had a pipe freeze and I caught a bagger about to throw boiling water on it.
