@bloombergbusiness: "The challenge with shadow AI is multifold." Workers who find their own AI tools without their employers' knowledge create new risks and challenges around data and disengagement, says Hayley McKelvey, Deloitte UK's chief AI officer, tells Stephen Carroll. #AI #Tech #business
I've never met a single person who actually likes using AI 👍

I am using AI every day, my productivity skyrocketed, I am saving the company a lot of money, can deliver in 1 week what I could deliver in a month in a better quality. I don't know when was the last time I wrote some lines of code

This is absurd. Perhaps add proper restrictions on work devices? 🤔

That happened already with simple things like free editing pdf sites where people upload company information because editing tools often require a license. The best tool is employee training, raising awareness inside the company and having clearly defined services and departments that can help you solve issues instead of blocking you from doing the work you need.

Any non company approved AI usage is a violation of your NDA. You're basically putting company secrets outside the business

Real talk, employees using shadow AI just want to be efficient talaga, but just banning it will not protect your company data. We noticed this with Skyrocket Studios. People stop using random tools kapag the company provides a clear strategy. Strict IT blocks will just make them hide it, pero if you guide them properly, that initiative turns into safe automation for everyone.

Literally raised this at my old multi billion $ business I worked at (where I was the 5th employee) and the CTO just wasn’t bothered 😂

The actual risk here in the public sector is information security and having guardrails to make sure only tools that are within our guardrails are sanctioned. It’s a balance between not stifling innovation and keeping information safe. AI expense also massively increasing in a sector with tight budgets.

This is why I upskilled for AI adoption and governance ahead of this realisation by organisations 😂
employees using unsanctioned tools shows huge demand for efficiency, but banning shadow AI won't protect enterprise IP without a clear deployment strategy... working with skyrocket studios showed us that off-grid tool usage drops when companies offer a tailored strategy... rigid IT blocks push talent into the shadows, but human strategic direction channels employee initiative into safe company-wide automation

These companies, holdcos, is they expect the best from their employees and make them use diabolical in-house sandbox versions of ai tools, using old models with limited access and tools.

Very interesting. Lots of companies have no real AI strategy, and no real use cases to make this work for their businesses.
