@robeverydayfinance: 📊 I was laid off 3 times in a 2 year period, but beyond the immediate financial impact, it fundamentally changed the way I see money. Every impromptu meeting or slack message asking if I was free sent a shockwave of anxiety through my body, and I’m not sure if that’s something I’ll ever shake. As a result, I stopped accepting standard advice and crafted my own views and strategies with money. The 3 month emergency fund just isn’t enough anymore. I truly believe a 6 month emergency fund is the only way to go. A Roth IRA isn’t an emergency fund and should never be used as one. I made a video detailing this from the Roth side, but I’m 100% against this. Low cost, broad market index funds are the most seamless path to growing and building wealth. You don’t have to worry about individual stocks and you get enough growth and diversity to make it worth it. Would you recommend prioritizing the emergency fund over contributing to your 401(k)? Meaning should I stop having 6% of my income added to my retirement so that I can use that money for my emergency fund coming with someone who is not flowing with extra Cash, has quite a bit of debt and can only really say about $100 a check sometimes.
