LEAP officer removes bulletproof vest and runs into the sea to save drowning teen. This should have been a routine afternoon patrol at Monwabisi beach. Around 14:20 LEAP officer Brent Williams and three colleagues arrived at the beach. Two boys were standing on the beach and desperately raised their hands and cried for help. Far out in the water was another boy, allegedly around 14 years old, busy drowning. There were no beach guards on duty. There was no time to wait. Brent took off his bulletproof tactical jacket and ran straight into the ocean. The 31-year-old officer, who has been serving for about three years, battled through strong currents and large waves. One wave knocked him over, but he got up and persisted. The tide was rising and the boy was already dangerously dragged along from the coast. Along with two brave members of the public, Brent reached out to the youngster and helped bring him safely back to the beach. When he got out of the water exhausted but safely, people on the beach raised their hands and saluted him. Brent later said he was just grateful that a mother didn’t lose her son and that a father would still have the opportunity to raise him. Thank you, Officer Brent Williams. We salute you. 🙏🏻
