Why can’t we just use all of these arguments? I’m so confused why you’re so against this argument that you make multiple videos about it. It’s not just the meat industry; it’s agriculture in general. The difference is that we NEED food. We won’t need AI.

There is a difference between a data centre, and agriculture, and yes agriculture does use water, but not as much as you think and it’s a more direct cycle. AI with evaporative cooling emits water vapour which is a greenhouse gas. We should be cutting fossil fuels from ag, but at least we were given a choice with food. We aren’t being given a choice with AI.

it’s because they are performative. they don’t want to make a real change or be diligent in what they ‘believe’ by actually going vegan. they want to stay ignorant to eating meat and act like there’s no problem with that

The ai water thing is a huge issue in places like Australia which is a drought prone country and is projected to be the data center capital after the US … the water argument isn’t the only issue yes but it is still an important one

Growing Almonds use more water than both the meat industry and data centres

What confuses me about the AI vs meat conversation is that 99% of the water used for meat is just rain and river water used for the crops that feed the livestock, whereas data centres use treated drinking water and makes it more scarce in local areas, so are we even talking about the same water? (Also our water infrastructure is built around agriculture but not around AI.) We need to use water to produce food anyway, so surely we're better off estimating the difference in water usage for vegan vs non-vegan diets and comparing that with the difference in water usage for AI tech vs non-AI tech. Idk I'm just spitballing though.

Also people are really tunnel visioned on “data centres = AI” when in reality most data centres are for other things. If you’re scrolling through tiktok, all the videos and comments you see are stored in data centres. Plus you are probably using more energy than if you were using ChatGPT

I’m more worried about illiteracy rates, AI replacing jobs, AI stealing art and not giving credit, privacy concerns, deepfakes, etc!

The water cycle being a bit more erratic in recent years isn't a "water crisis"

even if they are vegan protesting data centers because of water usage is still silly.

Performative is a key word. Modern data centres use closed loop water cooling anyway. It's just an easy way to bring it to life to people.

Ending factory farming and the overconsumption of meat and dairy products. So much gets chucked away which is wasteful. If we ended this at least it would mean a much more sustainable industry that does respect the animals. Yes I know a lot of people would argue against eating meat and dairy products, which I know is the moral option, nevertheless you don't have to be a vegetarian or vegan to care about animals. We have to stop arguing and vilifying each other and work together to at least make sure animals have much better rights and those who breach it are held accountable.
