@deeploneliness_: Some experiences don’t just hurt you for a while—they divide your life into who you were before they happened and who you became afterward. Losing your mother can change the way the entire world feels because suddenly someone who represented home, history, comfort, or unconditional love isn’t physically there anymore. Being betrayed by somebody you trusted can change the way you approach people because now you know that feeling safe with someone doesn’t guarantee they won’t hurt you. Having your heart broken can make you question everything you thought you understood about love, especially when the person you imagined in your future suddenly becomes part of your past. Losing everything and starting over can strip away the identities you built around possessions, relationships, careers, places, or plans and force you to discover who you are when those things disappear. And then there’s the realization that nobody is coming to save you. That one can sound incredibly lonely at first. 😭 You spend so much time hoping someone will arrive and make everything easier, fix what happened, give you closure, restore what you lost, or somehow hand you the life you’ve been waiting for. Then eventually you realize that while people can absolutely love you, support you, guide you, and walk beside you, there are parts of your life that only you can take responsibility for rebuilding. But I don’t think these experiences have to make someone colder. That’s the important part. Pain can teach discernment without teaching distrust. Heartbreak can teach standards without teaching emotional distance. Starting over can teach independence without convincing you that needing other people is weakness. And realizing nobody is coming to save you doesn’t mean nobody will ever be there for you; it means you stop waiting for another person to become responsible for your entire future. Some of the strongest people you meet aren’t strong because life spared them. They’re strong because life changed unexpectedly, sometimes brutally, and they slowly learned how to become someone capable of carrying what happened without allowing it to define everything that happens next. You may never become exactly who you were before certain moments—and maybe you’re not supposed to. Sometimes healing isn’t returning to the old version of yourself. It’s meeting the new one and realizing she’s going to be okay too.
