@grandegyptianmuseum: For ancient Egyptians, not all board games were used for leisure time; some carried meanings that reached far beyond entertainment. Found in the tomb of King Tutankhamun, this elegant game box of ebony and ivory held two playing surfaces for two different games. One side features the well-known 30-square Senet, whose name is thought to mean “passing,” while the other holds a lesser-known 20-square game. Though the exact rules remain uncertain, the board offers a glimpse into the deceased’s journey through the afterlife. In its funerary context, Senet carried a deeper significance.
