@inventionontt: Original Video Credit: YouTube/iHeartAuto With part of the cylinder head opened for viewing, the BMW S1000RR engine is run near its 14,200 RPM redline, exposing the rapid movement of the camshaft, valves, and valve springs. The cutaway provides a rare view of components normally hidden inside an operating superbike engine. Because the S1000RR uses a four-stroke engine, each camshaft rotates at half the crankshaft speed. At 14,200 RPM, that corresponds to roughly 7,100 camshaft revolutions per minute, or about 118 revolutions per second, with each valve completing an opening-and-closing cycle at that same frequency. At these speeds, precise valvetrain control is critical. The cams, valves, springs, and associated components must repeatedly accelerate and decelerate while maintaining accurate timing, helping the high-performance engine breathe effectively at extreme rotational speeds. I know how an internal combustion engine works—I understand the operating principle—but I really cannot grasp how it can function the way it does, at the speeds it operates at. 😬😬😬

Are the springs rotating around the valve stems. Am I seeing that right?

what's wild is this head is on a fixture and has an electric motor spinning the cams. you're only hearing valvetrain noise, not motor

How does the metal that the valve springs are made of not fatigue and break eventually?
