@cspanofficial: C-SPAN's "America's Book Club" — David Maraniss, the Pulitzer Prize winner and longtime Washington Post reporter, spoke about his biography of his father, Elliott Maraniss, who was fired from the Detroit Times after being subpoenaed by the House Un-American Activities Committee during the Red Scare because of his past association with the Communist Party. "They wouldn't let him read the statement unless he genuflected, apologized and named names — and he refused to do that," Mr. Maraniss said. "So, I thought that statement was lost forever." Mr. Maraniss recalled going to the National Archives to research the book and finding a file on his father, where he also discovered the statement.
