Despite the intense exterior weathering sustained during this process, the Crew Dragon was designed from its inception with rapid and economical reusability in mind While the sacrificial ablative tiles undergo calculated degradation during the high-heat phase of flight, the capsule's core pressure vessel and critical structural components remain entirely protected. Following recovery, the scorched outer thermal protection panels can be inspected, refurbished, or completely replaced, allowing the underlying spacecraft to be safely prepared for subsequent orbital missions.
