I love how the captions are so literal and yet artistic—the literal ladder of words, the watch(?) "on his left wrist" is on the right, the text talking about the window creates a window-like square in the center... the change in the subtitles representing you changing as a person (I assume?). My best guess is that this is a metaphor for old/bad "habits" bringing a long both comfort and misery. Like when you're going through a depressive episode, and it's so much easier to just wallow in it—wasting away in what is easier, more comfortable, less scary. Just dissasociating from the world and living in your own little bubble of comfort that's slowly destroying you. The man is a crutch through these times, perhaps an unhealthy coping mechanism of sorts. One you cling on to during those bad times, the thing you do instead of... everything else. You're afraid to die because that crutch is no longer there. Something that was so integral to what felt like happiness in your worst moments, yet you're doing better now without it. This is such a diverse metaphor that I think fits a lot of scenarios (such as addiction, codependency, etc.)

When I first started watching, I thought this was a metaphor for loss. I thought that the disappearance of this inspirational figure could help the character (you I guess) try to learn and grow after the man leaves. I’ve read some comments and I think the idea that it’s about dependence or a toxic/abusive relationship is good, but I have more to say about it. After finishing this video, I think it is about losing someone who has harmed you in some way. They changed you forever. Yet somehow, you need them. You miss them, but you don’t know why (symbolism of the face not being able to be made out). They either pass on or move to another victim. That’s why the captions change when telling instructions on what to do when you meet him. The music in the beginning is light and cheerful, just as you describe this man. But as we get to know him more through an outside source, the soundtrack gets more eerie and tense, as our perception of this man changes into something far more sinister.

Oh my God. I loved your monologue one small thing. It is to my understanding that you are supposed to wear your watch on your non-dominant hand so technically he would be wearing his watch correctly. Otherwise I loved everything.

I watched this over a few times in a row. I think something finally clicked for me. I was having a really horrible day today, and life was compounding on me, and in this blip of my life, something turned around. Breathtaking writing and delivery. I see many people mentioning how striking the captions are without elaborating much. To me, the captions resemble the signs you do not see in dream-like fantasy. Your ears do not have lids. They are always susceptible to honeyed words. However, no matter how lucid you believe you are, your eyes will never be open until wake. This inspired me to create a monologue of my own. Thank you.
