All large corporations are like this not just tech. We are all just a “resource” to be managed and allocated.

Took me almost 5 months to find a new job. The feeling was horrible. The betrayal feeling is still here.

Laid off Oct 2025. WFH software engineer. Done with tech for good. Tech was never a stable career. The comp sci propaganda got to everyone, including myself. Anyway, I was building a side business the entire time. Never going back to corporate. The elation you feel daily knowing you’re done with corporate for good is indescribable. No more Sunday scaries, I wake up whenever I want, every day feels like Friday, health dramatically got better, quality of life DRASTICALLY improved, I spend more time with my wife, the list goes on. I was at the pool last Tuesday at 11am sun shining bright on my face. Took a long time to build on the side, my pay is almost replaced, and I’m still building, but man life is so much better. No more Teams meetings, no more Outlook emails. Shall I go on? Everyone needs to plan their escape from corporate or you’ll suffer forever. Build on the side even though you’re mentally drained/exhausted or suffer forever. It’s everyone’s ABSOLUTE DUTY to do so otherwise, again, suffer forever. Suffer the pain of discipline or regret. Choose wisely which one you want.

There is so little protection built into jobs in the US. This doesn't happen for the employees of tech companies in other territories compared to their US colleagues

Look how many ppl over 40 got laid off. 14 months and still looking. Worst market ever! Ageism is real. Multiple degrees and certs. Im overqualified for everything according to the 10 interviews i had or they wanted me to work for free for a day

this is why you NEVER go above and beyond. you are a number ans they will get rid of you as soon as they like. nothing you did will be taken into consideration. when younger I'd kill myself for employers. No more i work my contracted hours. If there's a fire i step up but I also make sure Im compensated with money or time for my efforts.

This is my advice to those that are still working, prepare yourself for the worst, live below your means and invest monthly. Get a side hustle for income.

Employers are not your friend. It does not matter how long you are in the company. They don’t care.

Never, ever, treat company you work for as if it's someone care for you. It's not your friend, not your family, and your position is not the only thing you really are.

The first time was the worst. The subsequent ones you know what you have to do. Gets harder to find a job with age but if you don’t want me that’s a you thing.
