I think Putin initially wanted concessions without going through a full scale war. Western countries flooded Ukraine with weapons to bob down Russia. He withdrew to limit the conflict to the east but that emboldened Ukraine and NATO. Now he has no option but to use all means to win or risk losing face.Drones do play a part to slow Russia advances but what is missed by most analysts is the role played by land mines in this war. Ukraine is mine carpeted and every advance requires special mine’s clearing equipment. Intelligence provided by US also plays a big role for those drones to evade Russian defence and targets.
