I wish we treated suspected ovarian torsion the same, our ED docs love the "it's probably just a cyst". In my mind it's a torsion until proven otherwise 🙃

I drove myself in the middle of the night a month ago bc of severe acid reflux to where I couldn't catch my breath. I know my body well enough to know something wasn't right. they took me back ASAP. gallbladder was removed the next day. had a job interview and did it from the hospital in a crappy tshirt, no bra, no makeup and hair in a bun. got the job and started this week 😏😏

I thought I lost sight in one eye suddenly. Scariest thing!! I went in and after tests, was diagnosed with an ocular migraine!

Also DON'T BE ASHAMED if you go to the ER for mysterious chest pain and it turns out to be a minor issue! It's always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to chest pain, especially if it kind of pops up out of nowhere. Even if it does turn out to be something small like a strained muscle, at least you know for sure it isn't something serious! Plus if it's the first time it's happened, you'll know what to do if it ever comes up again. Stay safe everyone! [lovely]

I’m always sad to go because I have POTS/hEDS so I’m like “it’ll pass and I don’t want to waste their time nor take a bed from someone who needs it more” 😭

HEADACHES!!! Especially if you don’t usually have them! I had a rare acquired brain injury 4 years ago that most people 💀 from cause they don’t make it to the hospital in time cause they think it’s just a bad migraine!

Other signs of retinal detatchment: (in one eye) a spiderweb-like or crackly flash of light or color, a sudden burst of dozens of floaters that weren't there before. The retina itself has no pain receptors, so when it tears or fully detaches from the inside of your eyeball it will not hurt! If you experience any type of blindness honestly just go to the ER, if you live more than 20 min away and it happens off- buisness hours, call ahead so they can page the Ophthalmologist. Retinal detachments can just happen, but are also common after concussions, in elderly people, and in people who are very nearsighted (need strong distance glasses).

I was horrified when I assisted with draining a priapism for the first time. my dumb as was like "yeah, they'll drain it by sticking an IV in the engorged vein right?" I was wrong.

whenever I go to the ER for chest pain, they just do regular EKG say everything looks good even though my heart rate will be 160 and then blame it on an anxiety

Last time I went to the ER I was vomiting poop 💩. I have never been rushed back before & 5 doctors & nurses covered me immediately. I was first. I had a stomach obstruction. Got a nasal tube, x ray & off to surgery. Admitted to recover.

I worked as an optometric/ophthalmic tech for 7 yrs and the amount of times people would have a RD and leave it for days was always insane to me
