that's a HUGE amount of molding on top. why not add another small cabinet box above the existing one then add crown? much simpler and more storage!

I like this but I think I would do doors on the top so I would still have storage for holiday things but they are hidden to prevent clutter

Every day I am shocked by commenters thinking excess cabinets are better. Not everyone has seasonal changeouts of decor or needs storage for things they touch once a year. You did a beautiful job and I’m sure this was the right move!

Wasted all the storage space at the top. Could’ve put baskets up there. I keep light bulbs, spare cleaning products etc up there.

God I hate shaker doors, those lips catch all the dirt and suck to clean. keep it simple and go flat with no trim
