it's because too many of recent clothes is made from really bad polyester. i have plenty of clothes that's 20+ years old yet it feels completely different despite being same material

I hate how people act like polyester is just a bad cheap quality fabric, I have 2 vintage prom dresses made of polyester which are both over 40 years old and are both in good condition

Definitely true, but people tend to avoid it mainly because MOST brands (excluding atheltic wear bramds) that sell polyester sell very low quality polyester

Literally some of my favorite clothes are polyester mixs and I definitely think certain styles/pieces are better for certain things like clothing meant to be “destroyed” should prioritize how they break down and are made where as time pieces like going out dresses should prioritize how they preserve also another good comparison is ironically shibari rope
