As an Italian I agree. Because why is my dad, a straight up BROWN man, being racist? 😭

I frequently tell my Italian family “Not one of you is white enough to be racist” or at least I did until I cut most of them off, in 2016.

the Sicilian side of my family was very brown and very racist. it was weird. my German and Irish mother was the one who taught me to be antiracist and it's part of the reason she didn't stay with my dad. he was harassed by police in the 80s and 90s for looking like an immigrant and he had the audacity to be a redneck.

I’m Sicilian and yessss! Look into the lynching of Sicilians in 1891 (new Orleans) and why the Christopher Columbus holiday has nothing to do with Christopher Columbus himself or “finding America”

Yes! However the whitest whites still had derogatory names for them through the early 1980’s.

2nd generation Italian American and this is 100% accurate. We are only 2 or 3 generations removed from our relatives who experienced the treatment given to those who are not yt. I used to ask my grandfather to teach me Italian and he'd always say "We're American now" 😔

💯 My people need to remember we aren’t white. They don’t want Italians in their country clubs either

As a descendant of Irish and Italian immigrants, I do not get it. I think the problem is most people don’t know they were not considered white until the 1950’s.

It was not their skin color yall, its was their Catholicism. If you were not an Anglo-Saxon Protestant in the USA you were not white. Actually in the south it’s still kinda like that.
