September 17: Remembering Hank Williams Born on this day in 1923, Hank Williams became one of the most influential singer songwriters in country music history. Known as the “Hillbilly Shakespeare,” he gave country music timeless classics including “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” “Cold, Cold Heart,” “Hey, Good Lookin’,” “Jambalaya,” and “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry.” Hank earned 11 number one country hits and received six encores during his legendary Grand Ole Opry debut. His personal life, including his marriages to Audrey Sheppard and Billie Jean Jones, often inspired the heartache heard in his music. Although he lived only 29 years, Hank helped shape modern country music. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame as part of its first class in 1961.
