@courtsidepress: Former Georgetown star and NBA first-round pick Michael Sweetney has passed away at 43, his family announced Thursday. A cause of death has not been announced. Sweetney starred for the Hoyas from 2000-03, earning All-American honors before the New York Knicks selected him No. 9 overall in the 2003 NBA Draft. He went on to play four NBA seasons with the Knicks and Chicago Bulls before continuing his career overseas. Following his playing career, Sweetney remained involved in basketball as a coach and became an advocate for mental health awareness, openly sharing his own experiences to help others.
