"I get asked this all the time. People look at me, and they say… 'Why do you care so much? They’re just animals.' Or… 'It’s never going to change. Why bother trying?' Or even… 'You take it all too personally. Just let it go.' And honestly? I pause every single time, because I don’t even know where to start. But here’s the truth — the full truth: I care so much because they can’t speak for themselves. They can’t post online about how scared they are. They can’t write a letter asking for their home back. They can’t tell anyone when they’re hurt, or lonely, or afraid. They just look at you — and you see it in their eyes. That quiet trust. That gentle hope that someone will notice. That someone will choose them. I care because animals have taught me more about being human than people ever have. They don’t care what you look like, or where you come from, or how much money you have. They don’t hold grudges. They don’t judge you. If you are kind to them — truly kind — they give you their whole heart. Completely. Unconditionally. No strings attached. And that’s something so beautiful, so rare in this world… How could I not protect that? I care because they feel everything we feel. They love their families. They grieve when they lose someone. They get excited. They get scared. They have little personalities, little quirks, things that make them them. Every single one of them matters. Not as a trophy. Not as entertainment. Not as a product. As a living, breathing, feeling being that just wants to be safe and happy. Exactly like you and me. I care because someone has to. If everyone looked the other way, what would happen to them? If nobody stood up, who would? It’s easy to say 'it won’t make a difference' and walk past. It’s harder to stop, to care, to keep showing up even when it feels hard. But just because something is hard doesn’t mean it’s not worth doing. And just because not everyone cares doesn’t mean I should stop. I care because I’ve seen what’s possible. I’ve seen trust grow where there was fear. I’ve seen animals heal — not just their bodies, but their hearts. I’ve seen how gentle the world can be when we just give it a chance. And I want other people to see that too. I want people to look at an animal and not see something to use — but a friend, a neighbour, a fellow traveller on this planet. So when people ask me why I care so much? I care because they deserve it. I care because kindness matters, even when it feels small. I care because one person really can make a difference — and if I can be that person for even just one animal… Then it’s all worth it. Every single second. And I will never, ever apologise for caring too much. 🐾💛"
