They may not always use Yours Only products, but they’re surrounded by others in the same boat — and that’s what this community is all about. Meet our friend, Laura. She’s a naturopath based on the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne, specialising in TSW, eczema, skin conditions and chronic illness — work she’s deeply connected to, because she’s lived it herself. On weekends, she’s singing, playing guitar, or at the beach with her partner and their two cavoodles. This is her story: Laura went through Topical Steroid Withdrawal at just 20, on top of a lifetime of chronic eczema and food allergies. Like so many people trying to get answers for chronic conditions, she experienced gaslighting from multiple medical practitioners — including being told during a hospital admission that she’d never live a normal life without steroids. She’s grateful for the supportive team that helped her keep advocating for herself. In the years since, she was also diagnosed with MCAS and chronic fatigue following mould exposure, and has developed anaphylaxis to certain foods — something that’s made everyday moments like eating out with friends genuinely difficult. At the height of it all, she took six years off work, spending much of that time in bed, and has continued working through the emotional trauma of it since with a trauma-informed psychologist. What’s helped her most: building a team of practitioners who truly understand her conditions, finding community with others going through the same thing, and reconnecting with what she loves — picking singing back up after years away helped her feel like herself again. Her message to anyone going through it right now: “Be kind, understanding, and don’t pass negative comments. Knowing it may have taken someone everything they had just to get out of bed that morning is reason enough to show up with kindness.” x
