@wkrntv: Nearly a year after an explosion at Accurate Energetic Systems killed 16 workers, their families say they are still waiting for answers. Five families have now filed lawsuits as the company contests a record $3.1 million state safety penalty. “It destroyed our family,” Ernest Mays said. “That’s my daughter, and I have twins, so one’s here; one’s gone.” Nearly a year has passed since Mays lost his 26-year-old daughter, LaTeisha Mays, in the explosion. Families and community members gathered Wednesday night for a town hall in Waverly. It was held in the same square where people gathered for a vigil following the Oct. 10, 2025, explosion.
