You see, I’m getting married soon, In shaa Allah. I’ve already done the lefe and everything that comes with it. But honestly, my initial plan was quite different. I wanted to step away from the whole traditional approach and focus on what I genuinely believe makes more sense. I wanted to furnish my house myself, buy new clothes for her, clothes she would actually wear and enjoy, rather than impulsively buying large quantities of wrappers and other things that might end up sitting untouched for years. Because, realistically, there’s only so much she can sew and wear at once. Some of these things could easily remain in the wardrobe until God knows when. Unfortunately, my people made their position clear: “It’s not going to start with you. Yanda brothers ɗinka suka yi, haka ma za ka yi.” 😂 So, because that’s how the tradition has been followed in the family, I have to follow it too... But one thing I can say with certainty is that, if Allah blesses me with children, In shaa Allah, this particular tradition will not be passed down to them. I respect where it comes from and I understand its place in our culture, but I also believe traditions can evolve with time, especially when we find more practical and meaningful ways of doing things.

When I told her that let’s build our home and life together, and we really don’t need those “lefe” stuff, instead of the lefe, i told her I’ll establish a business for her first, she gently withdrew herself 😥💔 without even sharing her opinion or thoughts, but I’m fine now, never to a liability marriage or responsibilities 🙅♂️
