In the end, these are all settler colonists looking for ways to deepen their profits, grow their power, and suppress Indigenous peoples. They are using these “conflicts” to gain political support. There is a reason Ford called snap elections and consolidated his grip over government only one month into Trump being in office. Carney capitalized on nationalist sentiment resulting from Trump’s election — becoming leader of a crumbling Liberal Party and eventually leading a majority government.
