@nichellelaus: 🚨 SCAM ALERT: Would you use your debit card to help a stranger if they handed you cash first? Kingston Police are warning the public about a coordinated card-swap scam involving suspects posing as a food-delivery driver and customer. Here’s how it works: The “customer” claims their payment card isn’t working and offers you cash to pay for their order using the “driver’s” terminal. During the transaction, your debit card is secretly switched. Once you enter your PIN, the suspects have both your card and the information needed to access your account. Police say stolen cards have reportedly been used for cash withdrawals, purchases and deposits involving fraudulent cheques. Watch for these red flags: 🚩 A stranger asks you to complete a transaction you didn’t initiate 🚩 They offer you cash in exchange for using your card 🚩 The payment terminal is unfamiliar or kept inside a vehicle 🚩 The vehicle has no recognizable delivery markings 🚩 Their explanation about the order seems vague or inconsistent Protect yourself: ✅ Never use your bank card to complete a stranger’s transaction ✅ Don’t insert or tap your card on an unfamiliar terminal ✅ Keep your card in sight and confirm it’s yours before putting it away ✅ Always shield your PIN If you think your card has been switched, lock or cancel it immediately, contact your bank, change your PIN and review your recent transactions. Being helpful should never require using your bank card for a stranger. Please share this warning - you may prevent someone from becoming the next victim. #ScamAlert #FraudAlert #FoodDeliveryScam
I have a question. I don’t know if this is familiar to you or how you can help but I’ve seen people rip off card skimmers from debit machines at gas stations and such how do you know how do you recognize if it’s a card skimmer and is it true that if you use tap you’re OK it’s just if you insert the card you’re not?
