@tatianachristineee: I think one of the things nobody prepared me for was how lonely becoming healthier could feel. Most of my relationships actually felt easier when I abandoned myself. I suppressed what bothered me. I over-understood. I adjusted. I gave grace before I gave myself honesty. And because I wasn’t expressing everything I was actually feeling, there was less friction. Of course the relationships felt easier. I was the one carrying the discomfort quietly. They were getting a version of me that required less from them. Learning to set boundaries changed that. Learning to speak changed that. Learning that understanding someone doesn’t require abandoning myself changed that. And sometimes, that’s been really sad. Because I didn’t become someone unrecognizable. I just started showing up as my whole self..with needs, boundaries, standards, softness and honesty. And you start realizing that certain relationships weren’t necessarily peaceful. They just weren’t being challenged by the presence of your whole self. I think that’s part of coming back to yourself, too. Finding out what can still meet you once you stop disappearing inside of it. #selfabandonment #selftrust #comingbacktoyourself #relationshiphealing
