and it’s so common for theaters to have volume being WAYYY to loud. louder doesn’t = better or more immersive :( it’s so annoying

All movie theaters should have a button you can push to call someone to the theater so you don't have to miss a minute when something goes wrong

This is why we feel very privileged to have almost all our historic movie houses remaining in Portland. They all are like 100 years owned and locally owned. They have actual projectionists. They all take cinema and the audience experience so seriously! And nearly all of them still have physical film screenings mixed with digital.

I get that there aren't projectionists anymore, but what happened to the employee that came into the theater to make sure the movie was playing correctly a couple of times? (and made sure people weren't filming, etc). Half of my shifts working at a movie theater were designated auditorium babysitter and I was in that auditorium for my first check within like a minute of the film starting if not right when it started.

I almost left the last film I saw when they had 40mins of commercials playing during what you'd get from previews, I wonder if that was intentional and wouldn't happen on a big movie at AMC

all I heard was a ton of cost cuts for the studios and theaters, yet my ticket and cost of snacks have just increased exorbitantly

Just like with flights, they lowered the quality while raising prices and then turn around and charge extra for what we used to get for free.

My first job was at a movie theater right out of high school back in 2001. After a year of working there I got promoted to being a projectionist and my first movie that I ever got to build out of the reels tin was Lord of the Rings The Two Towers. I used to spend so much time taking care of those projectors and maintaining them. I could fix a brain wrap (when the film melts on the screen) lighting fast. Threading the film thru the projectors was very intricate because if you did it wrong you could scratch or even destroy the film. I only accidentally ruined one movie (Minority Report) by misthreading it in a hurry and it essentially erased the entire movie off the film 😅🤣

So i'm currently projecting the odyssey now for months , and i'm in the booth , and i'm watching the transformers movie screen for the 40th anniversary in the theater behind me. it was sold out and I noticed that nobody was leaving and I found out that there was new footage after the film , but the lights were already on because the credits were rolling , which is normal , they programmed that in. but I wasn't about to let these people watch an after movie short film with the lights on.So I manually took them down even though it's not my job to even touch anything for that movie. but i'm up there , i'm a professional , and I want people to enjoy going to the cinema. that's sold out room of 80s Transformers Fans didn't deserve to watch a new segment with the lights on. bring back projectionist, automation fails sometimes
