And because they can’t (or they feel like they can’t) actually do anything about the things making them upset they then turn to online spaces and take their anger out on people online because that’s the only outlet they have

The main problem today is that everyone feels pressure to be perfect. Online, people only show the best parts of their lives, making it seem like they have everything figured out when they don’t. Others see that and start feeling left behind or not good enough. People are too focused on popularity, status, material things, and looking perfect in front of others. Nobody wants to show emotion or admit they make mistakes. I deal with this too—I was bullied for being myself, making mistakes, and being judged by people who aren’t perfect either. It’s sad how often people put others down just to feel better about themselves.

The internet definitely feeds into our obsession with aesthetics, and that spills over into our morals. So many people aren’t concerned over the actual ethics or schools of thought behind something, but rather appealing to the aesthetic of an idea

from personal experience, Tumblr/Twitter (Tumblr more so). Every single person Ive dated that heavily used Tumblr ended up being a hardcore "moralist". I use the term moralist to describe a kind of person that spends all their time critiquing other people's actions and thoughts while never reflecting upon their own internal views. example- my ex advertised herself as a super pro LGBTQ+ leftist fighting the upper class and supporting Palestine. The reality was both of her parents were incredibly well off, and the moment I broke up with her she rebounded to a pro isreal rich white man.

I think part of if is also how centralized the internet has become. Before, you could at least hide behind anonymous usernames and other things. Now, with everything being tied to emails and other forms of personal identification, those safety nets (as flimsy as they were) are gone. I think this led people to be more conscious of social risks, at least from the technical side of things.

Idk. You would think being exposed to the internet and all different t kinds of things would desensitize us and we wouldn’t become the moral police. Kind of like how millennials grew up with offensive humor shows like South Park and Family Guy.
