@kaly_horsegirl: As a beginner horse rider it’s hard to determine what is good advice versus bad advice - even from people that are “experienced”. Here is a few of mine. Share in the comments below the the crazy things you thought were true as a beginner with horses.

I wish more people knew that riding your horse isn’t the be all end all of horsemanship as a beginner.

Mine was don’t ever let the horse win and always end on a good note. Yeah I think I’d rather avoid shoulder surgery and severe injuries thank you very much. I’ve ended when my horse was being ridiculous and then the next day he is great. So that advice just makes me roll my eyes now.

I grew up loving horses but having next to nothing to do with them because we couldn't afford it. I did grow up however being told by literally everyone that if you go behind a horse, they will kick 100% of the time. I'm 42, I've had my first horse for 8yrs. I'm still terrified of walking behind her and her back legs. She needs treatment on her back hoof and I now have my farrier coming out every few days to help me build the confidence to pick up her back feet, and walk behind her without giving her 2 metres

I got anxiety as well, and I'm scared to go to the next step and buy a horse. I kinda feel like I'm a bit stuck 😅

The most ridiculous thing I was told was I couldn't do lessons on my mare because mares are "mean and dangerous for a kid" she is the sweetest girl when rode correctly and not jerked on

Just tried on a bunch of new saddles and a whole summer wasted, bolting, injured shoulder, shaken confidence all because I was told the saddle fit despite my concern. Saddle fit is sooooo important. I will never force a fit again.

Don’t get on the horse if you are scared. Well if I would fallow this advice I would never ride 😂

I hate when people say 'just change the pad.' You wouldn't wear 5 pairs of socks to fix bad shoes. 🤬

I love them, I worked with some in a rescue as a volunteer. Leading a horse over 1200 lbs helps with confidence, their silliness always made me laugh, and with the right group you can make some amazing friends (horse and person) 💜

If I believed that you should never stand behind a horse, how would you braid their tail or work with them?? 😳
