@morgantoocoffield: I like to call this one: we know how we got here. Now we have to figure out how we get OUT. 😅 Right now I’m looking at every realistic option: working more, selling the car, using a HELOC or consolidation loan to deal with the negative equity + high-interest debt… and probably options I haven’t even thought of yet. I’m not a financial expert. I’m just a 32-year-old mom who is tired of making good money and still feeling broke. So we’re figuring it out in real time — numbers, mistakes, uncomfortable decisions and all. What would you do if you were in our shoes? 👀 #DebtFreeJourney #DebtPayoff #PersonalFinance #MoneyTok #FinancialJourney

Could you go into why your car is $1300?

In a similar situation, however my new vehicle (2025) had negative equity from being upside down in my prior vehicle. So even trying to downgrade it with a dealership wouldn’t help any which way when you owe more than the vehicle is valued for.

If you have a high interest loan that you can’t get ahead on you should call them to see if they can give you a hardship program , I did this with chase & discover & was finally able to make progress

Are you writing down all your spending? This is an important step. It helps you to see where your money is actually going. Walmart pick up helps me spend less because I don’t go inside the store. Do you have an emergency fund? This is important if you have no savings.

Definitely not a Heloc!!! Working extra hours is just for a season while you get out of debt

Change your lifestyle & snowball method. It changed our lives in 2 years. We are debt free, have a 6 months living expenses in savings. We now invest our extra money! Talking to a financial advisor really helped us too to get motivated for the changes today and excited for our future.

Have you tried calling your credit cards to see what internal programs they offer? Some will lower your interest for a certain time frame or close your card and lower your % to $0 and put you on a 60month payment plan, this would usually cut what your minimum is in half.

Moving high interest debt to a lower interest debt vehicle will definitely help! As long as you don’t let your lifestyle shift along with that change. You’ll be paying off more principal each month rather than tons of interest. Credit card debt is the worst so anything you can do to reduce or eliminate that first is crucial!

I am in your situation. but we've also been together for nearly 20 yrs. we are making more money then we ever had and somehow still coming up short. I blame this economy but you cant fight it. we've chosen to not take on a bigger mortgage

Unfortunately #2 wouldn't work unless you also do #3. So 3 is a must! If it were me, I'd also really look at where all the $ is going too. We found we were paying almost $250/ month for streaming subscriptions 🤦🏻‍♀️.

A consolidation loan was the best thing we ever did. We took what was left and opened up a 0% interest card and transferred our other card… we went from 50k to 20k so far this year. Hoping we can knock out the last 20 and buy a home by April!

I quit my higher paying job because I was never home and we ended up selling my car. It was around $1,000 a month and we just couldn’t afford to keep paying that. Sold it and it was like the weight of the car literally lifted off my chest lol

Please don’t do the heloc! Negotiate interest rates or even a 0% balance transfer and creating a plan to pay it off within said time frame. The debt consolidation loan or balance transfer would just put the debt into one big amount with a lower payment but snowball method and negotiating interest rates would move the needle faster. Whatever you decide I’m here to like and comment. Remember the goal is to get out of the debt. Also if you truly like your car, keep it but if you don’t care then get rid of it. I sold mine my first journey and guess what I just had to buy another. Granted I didn’t have to get the most expensive thing, but I went with something I want. Good luck!!! Do what’s best for you.

Car payment, 100%. I want a newer car sooo bad but have no car payment currently and don’t want to be stretched too thin with a car payment. Even getting a $600-$700 payment and picking up an ER shift twice a month might be helpful!

#3 is the only option that will stick!! I wouldn’t consolidate or do a HELOC! Very risky!! There is a lot of data that shows that people who do those options end up in even more debt.

We paid off 126,000 of debt - it takes so much work but you can do it! 👏 I vote option 3 - the most sustainable!

#3! Lifestyle change really makes you rethink things and also breaks bad habits mentally and physically! Also, maybe you can also withdraw from your 401k if your employer offers it. The interest rates are typically lower. I used that to help pay off high interest credit cards
