@gabectomy: I love it when old customers are surprised that I treat them the same way that they treat me. It turns out that’s never an issue if you’re nice. ##storytime##customersbelike##customerservice##retailproblems##retail
If your sunglasses break while in your car, is it the dealerships responsibility to fix the sunglasses? No, so it’s the same with email on your phone.

Worked for 🍎 as a manager. Had to get involved in an escalation because customer got mad at us that he forgot his password and we couldn’t help him get into his account. Literally said: No one told me I had to remember the password. SIR, that is the purpose of a password, you remember it or write it down and keep it safe….no one told him…SMH

I can’t stand the argument that someone doesn’t know technology because they are old. That’s not a valid excuse to me. They’ve had longer than me to learn it, so it’s not a good look that they haven’t learned email in the decades it’s been around.

As someone who works in customer service… I hate that stories like these are almost always true.

I worked at a DISPENSARY. I had nothing to do with anything tech-related. and in my 5 years there i frequently got asked for password help and its like.... this is so not a part of my job description and im not getting paid extra to do it, I get nothing out of the interaction I ain't doing it.

People would look me dead in the face and be like “I came here because geek squad wanted to charge me money” and I’m like “yeah I would LOOOOVE to charge you money for this but I’m too nice and can fix it in a second”

My fav trick when a customer gets mad and hangs up is to call them back and in the sweetest CSR voice say something like "I'm so sorry we got disconnected. Right in the middle of a difficult call. let's start over and we can try again"

I always say, "They don't pay me enough to have to put up with behavior like that." Then I look at my boss, hoping for a raise. And he goes: "Yep. We don't pay him *that* much."

"Not my generation" annoys me these days. Okay, you didn't have it as a teenager and young adult. But you've definitely had 20 years with the technology now, at least.

I (mechanic) had a customer come in today 2 hours before closing time with one of the crappiest aftermarket warranty companies known to man... fully insisting I complete a 4.6 hour job this afternoon when just doing the initial diag/ verification of failure and calls to get approval from his warranty company is going to take over 3 hours. Guy wouldn't take no for an answer no matter how many different ways I explained that the whole ordeal is going to be a minimum of 360 minutes and we close in 120 minutes. Finally I just had enough.
Sir... there's one way we can get this done tonight, but I'm not sure you're going to like the stipulations. "I absolutely HAVE to have my vehicle tonight so I can go to work in the morning, you're going to do WHATEVER it takes."
Well, sir... it's not so much what I'm going to do as what you're going to need to do. After hours emergency services are available for double the normal shop rate of 170 an hour, the only acceptable form of payment is cash, and we will not be calling your warranty company for approval. If you need this done tonight, it's a 5 hour job... 340 an hour would be $1800 in labor plus the $640 part and taxes on the merchandise. This will be a customer pay job of $2500 in cash upfront and I won't start the job until after I've closed shop and went to obtain the replacement part so I can look and make sure it's correct before disassembling your vehicle. 5 hours, plus an hour so I can have dinner because I skipped lunch... we close at 6, your vehicle will be ready by midnight.
And now I'm the asshole.

How do so many of them not have an email? They always say they don’t need it. I know they do! I am sitting in front of them in a situation that needs one! I’ve just started telling them to hand me their phones. 9/10 they have a smartphone, thus an email. One they don’t use, but I don’t care anymore.

people need to understand that us people who work at phone carrier stores, our job is to sell phones and services, we are not technicians, we can't fix your phone, we are not obligated to help you with any app like Facebook or Gmail or anything, the only thing beyond selling stuff we are obligated to do is make sure your service is working properly, and help do basic troubleshooting of the device (which customers can do at home), but we can refuse service for any reason
