What about I like you and I love you? Isn’t saying I love you to someone a lot more serious

You’d think it would be the other way around seeing as Te Quiero literally translates to “I want you”. It’s like saying out of all the people in the world, you only want that one person

honestly it's say te quiero to people it's love a lot, it doesn't necessarily mean "it's care for you" only. The actual translation would be "I love you" but it's not considered as deep as "te amo", I only use "te amo" with my girlfriend

In german we have something like that too! „Ich mag dich“ means i like you (platonically), „ich hab dich lieb“ means i love you (platonically, for friends & family) & „ich liebe dich“ means i love you (romantically)
