Why not throw out all of the Bible? Why not throw out the Old Testament, because it belongs to Judaism, and has nothing to do with Jesus or Christianity. Why not throw out all the epistles, because they were written by people who never knew Jesus, and with the exception of those attributed to Paul are either anonymous or pseudonymous. There are none written by his disciples. Why not throughout the gospels, because they were not written by Jesus, nor were they written by people who knew Jesus. Why not admit that every part of the Bible is legendary and mythical? It has nothing to do with any actual God. At some point in time, you have to decide what you care more about - the actual potential God, or your own dogmatic prepositions?

John Wesley said there are a few different ways to interpret scripture, but the most important way to look at scripture through a lens of love. So if something contradicts God's love, it is not important to hold onto.

This is similar to how my liberal church framed it, when I grew up enough to read closely and had questions. Being a teenager it just always seemed like a cop out to me. Are the writers of the text divinely inspired or not?

For Luther the Bible was the word of God, however, it was the cradle which held Christ. Christ is the centre, not the Bible. For Luther the authority of scripture is its gospel content. Luther also had a canon within the Canon. Scripture which more clearly proclaims the gospel; pushes Christ, is of greater importance. Which is why Luther removed the commandment of graven images from the Ten Commandments. For Luther our identity isn’t in the Law. The Law serves a purpose as a guide and shows us our sins, but there is no salvation in the Law. The Laws in the Old Testament don’t apply to us. The Law that does apply to Christians is the Law of love - to love one another as Christ has loved us; which Paul proclaims in his letters.
