@craftheritage: Rotten Wood Worm-Carving Art is a unique Chinese folk intangible cultural heritage that turns defective, worm-eaten wood into exquisite landscape artwork. It subverts the traditional concept of craftsmanship that pursues perfect materials and embodies the oriental philosophy of turning flaws into beauty. Artisans take naturally worm-corroded wood slices as the core material. Through high-temperature steaming, sterilization, bleaching and sun-drying, the rotten wood is stabilized and refined. Instead of polishing away natural worm holes and textures, craftsmen fully retain the irregular, rugged and natural grain traces left by time and insects. By reasonable layout, splicing and assembly, combined with precise pyrography and carbonization shading, the works present vivid layers of light and shadow. Rotten wood worm-carving advocates the beauty of imperfection. It inherits the inclusive artistic conception of Chinese traditional landscape art and reflects the wisdom of making the best use of natural materials. It is a rare folk craft that combines natural ingenuity and human craftsmanship. #handwork #craft #crafttok #handmade #ancientchina #countrylife #crafting
