@daisythehaflingerx: Lets talk about the joys of buying a new horse. Minor fixes upon buying a new horse have never bothered me personally. With every new horse or pony imo there will ALWAYS be something you need to fix. Your standards will never be the same as the next person. So when I buy a new horse I always assume there will be a few minor things health wise and behaviourally that need work. Thats life and the joy of having horses! So with Daisy, upon inspecting her in person I knew in would have to fix her feet. No worries they arent that bad. She has no signs of ever foundering previously. Toes were long and chipped with a crack in 1 hoof but nothing major, a solid looking hoof otherwise from what I could see. She was an unexpected purchase so she was being cared for by a lease home who was selling her for the owners and I wasnt able to collect her for a couple months. Daisy has been out of work for roughly 2 years prior to going to the lease home to be brought back into work and sold. The young girl who is absolutely lovely and a brilliant rider did her best to resolve her hoof issues prior to coming me and offered dental. Dental I waited till she was home as it was only a couple weeks wait away. Daisy did start to loose Condition rapidly as soon as winter hit. After a drought last summer then with winter arriving and teeth being well over due it was no wonder. The lease home did a fantastic job building her weight back up before she came home but she wasnt perfect. They also wormed and vaccinated her for me. I am so grateful for them or we would be well behind in having her where she is at. Anyway she came home and got much needed dental and will need another float in 6 months, feet are still a work in progress as she arrived with some white lines disease and became pre laminitic due to stress we think but feet look a million times better already and 0 lameness thankfully. White lines isnt the end of the world in most cases. Slightly concerning but with regular trims and proper hoof care its treatable. Our farrier predicted she will be 100% fine and wont ever need shoes. Yay! Body worker came out yesterday as its something that will be regular as she was slightly stiff in the hind and became stiff in 1 stifle in the last couple days. Having had some ill fitting saddles on her previously trying to find the correct one and having been on a float from south Australia to Vic she was likely to be sore. Body worker did an incredible job spent 3hrs on her doing red light, massage and acupuncture. Turns out she has most likely had a fall and slipped onto her side in the paddock at some stage either right before she come home or after and she had become sore due to that so thats getting fixed aswell. Horses will be Horses this is not something you can control. Its not a major injury, just like humans they fall and might make themselves a lil stiff. Diet was slowly changed to add and swap out a couple of things and she has been doing great, less cresty! She has had quite a Glow up literally! I have the correct saddle now, correct feed, feet are on the mend, teeth on the mend, vet checked and body on the mend. Vaccinated and upto date on everything. Nothing major and all small things I would have done Regardless of what previous owners said or did. Money well spent to make sure she is Completely healthy and sound. I feel it should be more normalised to expect some fixes when purchasing as long as it has no long term issues when buying a horse? Yes ok the feet I wish were slightly better but I have 0 regrets! Her Temprament is beautiful, she has so much potential, she is great with my kids, she is willing and gives her absolute all to do as you ask of her.
