She Escaped Prison After A Double Homicide Conviction—Now The Prosecutor Says She Is Innocent In 2002, Sarah Pender was sentenced to 110 years in prison for a double homicide. But six years later, she told a judge she was not going to d*e behind bars. Pender’s boyfriend had used a we*pon she bought to k*ll their two roommates in 2000. Though Pender was not home during the crime, she helped him dispose of the bodies. Her boyfriend pleaded guilty. But Pender went to trial and was convicted based on a supposed written confession and the word of a prison informant. Maintaining her innocence, Pender escaped from an Indiana women's prison in 2008 with the help of a guard and a former cellmate. She lived on the run in Chicago for four months under a fake name. Her freedom ended when a neighbor recognized her from an episode of "America's Most Wanted" and tipped off the police. Pender was captured and thrown into solitary confinement for five years. But then the case took an unexpected turn. The very prosecutor who helped put her away, Larry Sells, discovered hidden evidence. He found a document written by the informant that was never given to her lawyers during the trial. He also learned her supposed written confession was actually forged by another inmate. Sells publicly stated that Pender was wrongfully convicted and that justice is long overdue. Despite the retired prosecutor fighting for her release, the legal system has refused to set her free. A judge denied her latest petition for a reduced sentence in early 2026. Today, Pender remains in prison, with her earliest release date set for the year 2054. Do you think the court should grant her a new trial? #SarahPender #TrueCrime #AmericasMostWanted #WrongfulConviction #PrisonEscape
