I figured it was time to share this story because it’s very, well…Me! You didn’t think I suddenly became normal, did you? Danny and I met on FACEBOOK DATING on February 26. Yes, Facebook dating. The thing that I made as a complete joke because people sent outrageous messages and it amused me. I guess we owe Mark Zuckerberg a wedding invite and a shadchan fee. Anyway, after we matched and exchanged numbers, I realized that we had actually spoken over text two years ago. I had a different number at the time so he didn’t have any of the messages, but I did. The conversation fizzled out and neither of us were particularly interested. Goes to show that right person, wrong time is a real thing. This time, we decided to FaceTime that night and see where things went. We talked for two hours and later learned that that night, we both told our mothers that we met “the one.” They of course thought we were a little insane. But we already knew. The values aligned, we had the same goals, a similar sense of humor, were on similar religious journeys, and wanted the same thing out of life. All his “red flags” were green flags for me. To think that in today’s day and age, taking care of family is considered a red flag. Insane. Right away, I felt like he understood me. I didn’t have to hide anymore. I could just be. He wasn’t a project, he was an equal — someone for me to admire and respect. And there’s so much to respect about him. He was in Texas at the time. And I was in Maryland/Pennsylvania. But guess what? Hashem has His ways because it just so “happened” to be that he and his family were in the process of moving to Pennsylvania…less than an hour away from my parents! That night, I remember thinking “he really could be the one.” But I had been burned so many times. Heartbreak after heartbreak. Broken promises, unequal commitment and effort, etc. I was skeptical. I wondered if and when I’d hear from him again. I didn’t want to get my hopes up but in my heart, I already knew. He texted me the next morning. That was different. Follow through? Effort? Unheard of! Anyway, I’ll make a part 2, but we ended up talking every day until we finally met a month later. #jewishtiktok #orthodoxjewish #judaism #engaged #wedding
