@therapistmomunfiltered: Want your teenager to talk to you more? Not every conversation needs to become a parenting lesson. Your teen tells you about friendship drama… And suddenly you’re explaining what they should have done, what they should do next and what you’ve been telling them for years. It usually comes from love. But teenagers are developing independent thinking and problem-solving skills. When we immediately take over, they can walk away feeling managed instead of understood. Sometimes connection needs to come BEFORE advice. Try asking: “Do you want me to listen, help you problem-solve, or give you my advice?” That one question gives your teen some ownership while still letting them know your wisdom is available. And ironically? Sometimes the fastest way to get your teenager to WANT your advice is to stop giving it before they’ve asked. Listen first. Understand second. Teach when they’re receptive. #TeenCommunication #ParentingTeens #HowToTalkToTeens #ParentTeenRelationship #TeenParenting
