"The heat that rises off these stones is a live thing," she called down to the ravens. "I bathe in it. Danger circulates through my wings. I am ember-proof and storm-proof both." That afternoon lightning struck a ridge across the canyon, and a cholla patch began to burn, putting up a column of black smoke and sparks. The Eagle beat away from the thermals so hard she nearly fell, and when she landed, it was in a canyon creek, where she waded instead of flying. A Raven said, "Fire-riding. And now fire-fleeing." And the moral of this fable of swagger and serendipity is; The one who talks most about courage is the one most afraid. #fable
