Truth be told, sometimes we really do want to fix things. We tell ourselves, “Maybe this time it will be different. Maybe we should just try one more time.” And honestly, who doesn’t want to believe that something they once cared about can still be saved? But then you remember everything that happened. The lies. The betrayals. The disappointments. The times you had to swallow your pain and pretend you were okay just to keep the relationship going. You remember how many times you forgave, how many times you gave another chance, and how many times you ended up hurt again. And at some point, you start asking yourself, “Am I trying to fix this because it’s still worth saving, or because I’m afraid to let go of what I once had?” Sometimes starting over with a stranger feels less frightening than going back to someone who already knows exactly where they hurt you and still chose to hurt you there. A stranger may not know your story, but at least you’re not walking into something already carrying all the pain of the past. Sometimes starting over isn’t about finding someone better. Sometimes it’s simply about choosing peace over repeatedly trying to repair something that keeps breaking you.
