@tytradingcoach: I’m a 41-year-old trade psychology strategist. Here are 7 things no 25-year-old can tell you. 1. You can waste years trying to become more disciplined. I used to think good traders had some psychological strength I didn’t. Eventually I learned discipline comes from repeating the right behaviours until doing anything else feels unnatural. 2. More experience can make your psychology worse. Repetition doesn’t care what you repeat. Spend years hesitating, interfering and breaking rules and you’ve spent years practising exactly that. 3. You shouldn’t blindly trust your strategy. Trust needs evidence. Once you’ve seen what happens when your strategy is properly executed enough times, you don’t need to convince yourself to trust it. 4. A lot of psychology problems are actually ambiguity problems. You can’t consistently follow a rule that means something different every time you look at the chart. 5. A profitable mistake is still a mistake. The market can reward you for doing something stupid. If you judge yourself by the outcome, you can accidentally reinforce the exact behaviour you’re trying to stop. 6. You’re building your psychology every time you trade. Do the wrong things repeatedly and you reinforce bad psychology. Do the right things repeatedly and you start building something very different. 7. Eventually, following your rules stops requiring willpower. I haven’t intentionally broken a trading rule in eight years. Not because I have incredible discipline, but because I’ve repeated the correct behaviours enough that there isn’t much of a decision left anymore. I give free 1-1 calls to traders over 40.
