Nobody prepared me for what postpartum actually felt like. Not the books. Not the classes. Not even the moms who tried to warn me. You just kind of get thrown into it and figure it out one sleepless night at a time. 🌙 So I started collecting the little things that actually helped. Not the big stuff. Not the advice that costs money or requires a schedule or assumes you have two free hands. The real stuff. The tiny stuff. The stuff you stumble into at 3am when you’re just trying to survive until sunrise. 🤍 The car thing started by accident. I pulled into the driveway after a grocery run alone and just…didn’t get out. I sat there for five minutes listening to silence. And I walked inside a different person. Now I do it on purpose. Five minutes in the driveway is my decompression chamber and I will protect it with my life. 🚗 The music thing happened the same way. One song. Headphones in. Eyes closed. I’m not meditating. I’m not doing breathwork. I’m just letting something that isn’t a baby monitor or a cry fill my brain for three and a half minutes. It counts. It works. Don’t overthink it. 🎧 The bare minimum rule saved me more times than I can count. On the days that felt impossible I stopped asking myself to do everything and started asking myself to do three things. Drink water. Eat something real. Go outside even if it’s just to the mailbox. That’s a win. That’s a good day. Seriously. 📋 And the 3am app thing was a game changer. I found Beacon and it’s basically a live map of moms who are awake right now. You tap a little beacon and it shows you that other moms are up at the same hour, struggling the same struggle, surviving the same night. The loneliness of postpartum is so real and so heavy and just seeing that I wasn’t the only one awake made it lighter. 📱 But honestly the biggest hack was the mindset shift. I stopped waiting to feel like myself again and started getting curious about who I was becoming. Because the version of me that woke up every two hours for months and still showed up and still loved this baby and still kept going? She’s actually kind of incredible. And so are you. 💛 If you’re in the thick of it right now, save this post. Not because it has all the answers. But because on the nights when everything feels like too much, it might help to remember that someone else figured out a tiny thing that worked and wanted to share it with you.
