A human just stepped into the cage with a full-size humanoid robot at @REK. The footage looks straight out of science fiction. The human is wearing protective gear and boxing gloves. He gets close enough to trade physical contact with the humanoid inside the REK arena. The robot takes the impact, keeps its balance, moves forward and the human ends up on the floor. I kept watching the robot’s legs during the contact. Its upper body gets pushed around, but the feet keep correcting the stance while the arms stay active. For humanoid combat, staying upright after a hit can be as important as throwing one. REK is turning humanoid robots into machines people can actually interact with inside a fighting cage. Seeing a robot next to a person also gives a much better sense of its size and mass than watching it move alone. A few years ago, most humanoid videos were walking tests, basic manipulation and controlled lab movements. Now we are watching humans put on protective equipment and step into the same arena with them.
